About Oak Ridge High School
Oak Ridge High School is a 4-year public high school, established in 1943, with an enrollment of approximately 1,500 students in grades 9 through 12. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Tennessee Department of Education, Oak Ridge maintains its status as a comprehensive public school while functioning as a resource and a support system for the individual student. Approximately 80% of our seniors indicate that they plan to continue their education at the post-secondary level.
Student Achievement
Oak Ridge High School students' scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the American College Test (ACT) have exceeded national and state averages for the past 40 years.
National Merit Program
Approximately half of the junior class takes the PSAT/NMSQT each year. The Senior Class of 2005 has 17 National Merit Semifinalists, 24 Commended Students and 3 National Hispanic/National Achievement Program awards. The Senior Class of 2004 had 11 Semifinalists, 10 Finalists, 15 Commended Students, 8 Scholars, 1 National Hispanic Scholar Finalist and 1 National Achievement Semifinalist.
AP Exams
In 2004, 221 students took 540 AP exams. Of the scores earned, 85% were 3 or higher, 63% were 4 or higher and 35% were 5. Between college credit courses and Advanced Placement exams, our students earned in excess of 1000 college credits, saving parents approximately $840,000 in total college costs.
